The road to Santiago do Compostel or GR655
On the Via Turonensis leaving from Paris, Cléry-Saint-André is still a traditional stopping-point on the road to Santiago, after the cathedrals of Paris, Chartres and Orleans. The first chapel in the south aisle of the basilica is also called the St James Chapel and contains a magnificent 16th century statue of the saint in polychrome wood. The walls and vaults combine the arms of the Pontbriant family, who commissioned the chapel, with the pilgrim's staff, bag and shell.
The Valley of Kings Heritage Trail, (Grande Randonnée de Pays, GRP)
Marked in yellow and red, this trail stretches for 150 kilometres along the banks of the Loire from Briare to Chambord.
